Frugality and Puppy Food

By Angela W Posted in Budget / 2 Comments »

This weekend we purchased over $40 worth of food and treats for only $10 and change.  In fact its very rare we spend the full amount on food between Purina coupons, Petco coupons, and B10G1 at Petco. But this weekend we did even better than normal.

We Started with$1 off Snausages, 2-$3 off Pro Plan, 2-$4 off Purina One, and 1-$4 off Dog Chow.

Went grocery shopping, checked dog food prices and picked up an Iams mailer with 1-$8 off, 3-$6 off, B2G1 biscuits, B3G1 cans, 1-$5 off cat food.

Went to Target bought Snausages for $1.79-$1 off =.79 and Iams puppy for $8.43-$8 off=.43cents

Target total=1.22

Went to Walmart bought Puppy Chow for $3.96-$4 off=-.04

Walmart total=-0.04

Went to Petco and picked up a $5.99 off Whole Meals coupon. Bought two Purina One Naturals canisters for $4.76×2=9.52-$4-$4=1.52 a Whole Meals bag $5.99-$5.99=0 and a bag of Pro Plan Puppy $11.99-$3 off plus a 10% off coupon

Petco total=9.46

Total=$10.64 for 41.68 worth of food or roughly 74.5% off

With coupons leftover and more to print and some rebates for next week when I get paid.  Which makes for a happy spoiled puppy.

KONG Blue

By Angela W Posted in Products / No Comments »

The first I heard of this was in a Grooming/Vet supply catalog. The blue KONG features an even stronger rubber and is available only to vets and police officers. This immediately interested us as Boris has proven himself to be an eating machine. I received an Amazon gift certificate as a prize the other day ans was browsing treats and KONG toys and came across a blue KONG. The seller does not mention it needs vet/police buyers only so we are looking into buying one (well at least one). While I will feel a bit bad about getting around the system, its cheaper than getting a prescription from the vet or even worse, buying it from the vet. He’s going to need one most likely, and I might as well fill my arsenal now with Extreme and Blue KONGs. He’s only a couple more months away from being able to retire his puppy KONGs and he already has all his adult teeth.

Seeing the World Through New Eyes

By Angela W Posted in Sponsored / No Comments »

Today while taking Boris outside his mom realized her glasses were slipping more than usual. She needs anew prescription anyway, but glasses are so expensive. Luckily she came across a better alternative to paying $200+ or even 2/$100 at BJs.

Zenni Optical offers glasses at the lowest price I’ve ever seen. And they aren’t just the ugly ones you see people use as emergency extras. They are the nice rimless glasses, bifocals, even tinted sunglasses or sun sensing ones. No more having to settle for icky glasses because your wallet can’t afford what you want and need. Even the fanciest glasses cost only a fraction of what you would pay at your regular glasses store. And the shipping is the cheapest I’ve seen in along time. Why pay more when you can pay less and get more?

I think I will be buying a couple pairs to make it through keeping up with Boris and lots of walking. At these prices why not?

Smart Pak

By Angela W Posted in Other Sites / No Comments »

SmartPak is a company right in Massachusetts that sells dog and horse feed as well as supplements in pre-measured containers in a month supply. They don’t sell cheap food either, just the good stuff and the prices aren’t bad either considering the convenience and benefits of feeding a known amount each and every time. They carry Wellness brand which is one of the best puppy foods, so we are looking at getting Boris and Cherokee hooked up with food and Missing Link once I get a real job. We figure it will cost us two more dollars to get both boys Missing Link than we pay for a bag right now. more than worth it in my opinion. Our big debate is ordering online/on the phone or taking advantage of an excuse to drive the hour and a half to visit the store and order in person. We wouldn’t save much in shipping, but its an excuse to take the dogs for a ride and see the place for ourselves. They are hiring employees, if only they weren’t so far away I’d be applying myself but 1.5hr drive is too much.

Visit them at www.smartpak.com for dog or horse feed, supplements, and supplies. You’ll be glad you did (I am).

Kindergarten Graduation

By Angela W Posted in Training / No Comments »

Last Wednesday was graduation. Which is kind of nice, but I’m a bit upset as I could swear it was for ten weeks, and we never made up the one week we missed and only got socialization time a couple times. Not exactly what I had paid for.  He did get better a bit, but I am looking forward to finding a different teacher.

Tim stopped in at the pet store near us to talk to the ladies about training only to be told they don’t clicker train either. Which is weird because I found them on a clicker trainer listing.  Its all I can do to not cry and track down Brenda using any method possible. I just want a clicker trainer that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. Its not impossible is it?

The ladies did say they have a brood bitch that can help Boris with his manners. He has just awful manners with other dogs and because we didn’t get many play sessions he didn’t get far with that. So hopefully we’ll be able to set up a session or two and work through that so we can take him to daycare for more socialization.

We did get a keen goodie bag from the daycare owner for graduating. It had a rawhide chew, a bagel, a can of wet food and a trial size of Inova dry.  We traded our rawhide chew for another bagel with the owner of the German shepherd. And we got a certificate.

Baby Its Cold Outside

Boris would like to say he’s sorry his mommy hasn’t posted in awhile but we were all busy snuggling in front of the space heater as we were out of propane from Saturday evening till this evening. Sharing bills with idiots is bad.

However there are some great ideas to stay warm if you own your own home or have a nice landlord. DESA has some lovely products I’d love to be able to install in my home. A vent-free gas heater would be just the thing to tuck in the corner next to the dog beds (Boris says so) and would provide up to 15% savings on fuel usage for a 5 degree temperature setting difference using “zone heating” which lets you put heat where you need it, not in the empty rooms. With our average heating fuel fill costing $300 that would save us an average of $200-300 dollars over the winter. With the price of heating fuel (all types) increasing its important to conserve wherever you can. And if it can be functional and look good so more the better. Boris wishes we had one of these so maybe we wouldn’t run out of heat so fast. He’s a real snuggler.
