Pooch Pops

By Angela W Posted in Other Sites, Products / No Comments »

Jelsert (the same company that makes Ice Pops) used to make a product called Pooch Pops. They come in beef and cheese flavors, ten to a box for about a buck fifty. They don’t make them anymore. No one does. Fortunately we started our search this year before its too hot. We contacted jelsert and asked. They told us PetSmart had the remaining pops. We bought 12 boxes, treats, and a new Galileo bone for the boys. Not too bad for $50 to get free shipping, plus the 10% off sale that was going on. Also got a roll of vet wrap for the bad foot in there (Bo will not be happy about that one, lol). Took about a week to ship using the FedEx/USPS cheapo shipping. We’ll be stalking the mailman Saturday when its supposed to arrive. Too bad they stopped making the pops as when we’re out we’ll probably be out for good.

New Spring/Summer Fashions?

By Angela W Posted in Sponsored / No Comments »

Once Bo gets better we’ll be heading back out for some intensive training. We missed out on the TV reality show this season, but we have some time to work on our training and get ready for next season (assuming it doesn’t only go one season). While we’re looking into some safety gear to keep the puppy’s pad safe, Tim will be needing some new duds as well.

Since it will be summer a couple pairs of 511 Tactical Shorts will go well. Fortunately Tim isn’t too picky so the fact that they don’t come in “trendy colors” won’t be an issue. I suppose 511 Tactical Shorts in classic colors is just fine. It means if he doesn’t kill the 511 Tactical Shorts this season we can not have to buy more next year. Its really nice to be able to shop for 511 Tactical Shorts online and not have to drive far with gas prices getting so high. Bo will be thankful as well when he can go out for a nice run with his dad.

Quickie Bo-boo Update

By Angela W Posted in Daily Life / No Comments »

Bo is healing ok. He’s been getting his paw wrapped and bandage and a bootie on top for some time now. He managed to hurt his dewclaw tearing off the bootie, but we left the bandages off for the past couple days and its been better. It seems to nothave liked being wrapped up. We called the vet today to tell them his heartworm post card arrived early (they have his birthday wrong) and asked about it, and they sid it sounds just fine which is good. We’d really rather not bring him in for stitches if we can. Soon enough he’ll be better though.

Bo vs Nature

By Angela W Posted in Daily Life / No Comments »

Timmy decided yesterday I’ve been inside working too much and we were having a family day out, or at least the evening. He came home and took the trash to the dump while I finished dinner and then we took Bo down to the river to fetch sticks, splash in the water and play about.

We had a good bit of fun for over an hour until we were standing still to catch our breath and when he picked up his foot I noticed it left a bright red puddle. I immediately grabbed a cookie and put the leash back on and told him to sit down while Tim checked it out and said that he had sliced the front toe pad open pretty far. Most likely a mussel or a shard of glass or sharp rock. The river front isn’t really beach pretty.

So we drug him home (at this point he was wincing so I think we caught it right after it happened), and pre-hosed him off under the garden hose. Then it was into the tub for a regular bath (took twice the normal soap as Tim decided to make him an “Indian dog” complete with handprints and stripes).

Then we dug through the first aid supplies for something to put him back together with based on the quick research I’d done. We had gauze but no wrap, and no suture type bandaids (butterfly type but bigger). So Tim went to the neighbor who grooms to beg for help and came home with a couple to tape on. We then layered a gauze pad and tied it on with a bandanna and put a winter bootie over it to keep it on.

We then rinsed ourselves off quickly, and ran out for some better supplies (although we passed on the suture bandaids for the moment, the box of 30 for $8 was a bit much. We’ll pick it up tomorrow when we go shopping if  we really think its necessary. I changed the dressing this morning and it seems to have stopped bleeding (at least until I squirted wound care into it, lol). The gauze wrap makes a smaller bandage than the bandanna and fits in his bootie better. He’s chewed a hole in that of course over night, in defiance no doubt.

Boris is not amused and has been very quiet and clingy.  My baby just figured out what getting hurt is like. And now he can’t go on his walk. He has gotten a couple more treats than usual (we brought home doggie ice cream with the first aid supplies)and has been snuggled into my foot for the past three hours minus a potty trip. And Tim caught him snuggled on the bed when he was taking a shower and I was packing his lunch. Needless to say he had to get down but we both felt bad.

Spring is Here!

And Boris couldn’t be more excited. Since I have been hoping to get more in shape from having a dog to exercise I have been walking to get the mail around lunch time again. Its not as long of a walk as he would like, but its just enough to get the blood moving and not take too long of a break after eating to get distracted from work. And its really easy to get distracted from work when the sun is shining and the breeze is blowing and the birds are singing…but if I want to continue to justify working from home at all (although I’d love a part time or full time job that wouldn’t interfere with that) I need to get as much done as I possibly can. Now that we have PR2 its easier but I could still stand to make another couple hundred a month to fit the rent monthly into my salary.

Things That Move

By Angela W Posted in Daily Life / No Comments »

Yesterday on our walk to get the mail we encountered a turtle next to the frog pond. Now the entire time the frogs were out we didn’t see any and the noise didn’t interest Boris, but  the small turtle trying to slide into the mud was apparently fascinating. He stood and barked at it and tried to convince it to play until it buried itself in the reeds. It was rather cute compared to the snapping turtles we normally see this time or year, not to mention safer.

Boris was of course sad it didn’t want to play. I hated to tell him it wouldn’t have been much fun, being slow and all, lol.
